My cute sister-in-law Katrina works for Signing Time and told me months ago about their DVDs that teach babies and children American Sign Language. I bought the two Baby Signing Time DVDs last December for Brooklynn and am completely in love with them (and so is Brooklynn--she goes NUTS whenever we put it on)! Several people have mentioned to me their fear that if babies learn to sign it will delay their speaking ability but I completely disagree. I think Brooklynn speaks so well because she signs. It helps me select a few words that we use often and emphasize those words--plus, every word she signs she also tries to say. Of course, when she was just learning to talk, her words weren't very clear so the signs helped me understand her better. Brooklynn's favorite songs are the ones with hand motions so it only makes sense that she would pay more attention to words that have signs attached as well. We now watch the regular Signing Times in addition to the Baby Signing Time DVDs and I am constantly amazed at how quickly she picks up words and signs.
